Serving as your City Councilman for Ward 3 these last four years has been an incredible experience. We are constantly learning new and interesting things, trying to solve problems, and doing our part to keep the city chugging along. The City of Missoula has an incredible staff and it has been a privilege to work with them.
As the chair of the Plat Annexation and Zoning committee I have always tried to maintain a fair and thorough process where all interests get heard. Many of the issues that come before Council are complex and can be seen from many different perspectives. I try to weigh these different interests and make the decisions that are best not just for my constituents but the city as a whole.
I have also worked hard to maintain a line of communication with all those who are interested in following the business of the council. Folks in Missoula really like transparency and access to government. All of our proceedings are played on MCAT and there is regular coverage in the Missoulian and Independent. But I found that there was a gap in the middle for people who wanted more detail than they could get from the paper but didn't want to sit through all the meetings. So I started a list serve where I send out a weekly committee update covering the business of the council. This has evolved into an incredibly valuable resource with insightful discussion from all sorts of knowledgeable people.
